The San Antonio Spurs are a professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. They were founded in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals and joined the American Basketball Association (ABA) before joining the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976. Since then, they have become one of the most successful franchises in NBA history.
Led by head coach Gregg Popovich since 1996, the Spurs have won five NBA championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014), making them one of only four teams to win at least five titles along with Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.
Throughout their history, many legendary players have donned a Spurs jersey, including Tim Duncan - who spent his entire career with them from being drafted first overall out of Wake Forest University until retiring after winning his fifth championship ring -David Robinson or Manu Ginobili, among others.
With an impressive legacy both on and off the court that spans over half a century now, it's no wonder why this franchise is so beloved by fans all around, not just in Texas but also across America!
