The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful franchises in NBA history, with a total of 17 championships to their name. The team was founded in 1946 and played its first game on November 5th of that year against the Toronto Huskies. In their early years, the Celtics struggled to find success but eventually turned things around under legendary coach Red Auerbach.
During the late 1950s and throughout much of the '60s, led by Bill Russell and an array of talented players such as Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Sam Jones, and Tom Heinsohn, among others, they dominated basketball, winning eleven titles over thirteen seasons from (1957-1969).
In recent years, under head coach Brad Stevens' leadership since his appointment in July 2013, they have continued to be competitive while building for future success through smart drafting and player development.
Today's roster features All-Stars Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum, along with rising stars like Marcus Smart, who helped lead them back into contention after losing Kyrie Irving last season.
